OUT TODAY: My book The Scientist and the Spy!
Today is the release date for my book The Scientist and the Spy: A True Story of China, the FBI, and Industrial Espionage. This nonfiction geopolitical thriller has been four years in the making. In the process of reporting it, I crisscrossed Midwestern cornfields, returned to my old base in China, and revealed a previously undisclosed FBI program focused on Chinese-American scientists. At its core, though, the book is a very human story about a suburban dad caught up in a global rivalry. You can read an excerpt in Vanity Fair.
Booklist gave The Scientist and the Spy a starred review and called it “hard to put down and harder to stop thinking about.” In a review for Science, Helen Anne Curry called it “essential reading, especially for those working in the sciences today.” In including the book on its list of ten to read in February, The Washington Post called it “a riveting whodunit.” The book is also on Amazon’s best books of the month list.
